Introduction to Dept


We offer an extensive curriculum, which tries to offer all pupils the opportunity to experience a range of activities.

AT KS3, pupils have two 1 hour lessons, and non GCSE pupils in Years 10 and 11 have one.  Pupils can also opt to study GCSE PE at KS4.  A wide range of extra curricular clubs and fixtures are offered throughout the year.

Full Course:  A* - C 87% (43 pupils)
Short Course:  A* - C 100% (1 pupil)

Departmental Trips/Visits


Gifted and Talented Cohort visit Essex University, Colchester for two day fitness assessments, diet/training lectures.

Wimbledon Tennis championships for House and Sport Captains

KS3 syllabus (outline)


During KS3, pupils have the opportunity to study five of the six National Curriculum - Games, Gym, Dance, Athletics and OAA in Year 7.

Units of work are studied for between 6 - 8 weeks.  Year 7 - 9 also follow a unit on fitness.

Year 9 PHSE lessons also incorporate "step into sport", which assists pupils with the JSLA programme at KS4.

In Core PE lessons, pupils have the opportunity to study two of the six National Curriculum areas.

Offsite activities such as golf and climbing are also offered.

GCSE pupils follow EDEXCEL course.

All Year 10 pupils complete an eight week JSLA programme working in Primary Schools, with the option of gaining an award in Year 11.

Resources/Revision Guides


Edexcel and Lonsdale Revision guides are offered to pupils to purchase in preparation for examinations
