Special Educational Needs
Debenham High School is an inclusive school. Special Needs pupils are placed in mixed ability form groups and much of their learning takes place in these form groups during KS3. At different stages in KS3, according to the faculty, pupils are ability-set in English, Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages. Pupils who have been identified at primary school and by test statistics as requiring extra support in English or Maths are taught in small groups in these subjects. The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) teaches and advises staff on teaching and learning for Special Needs pupils, supported by a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. There is also Teacher Assistant support available in many mainstream lessons.
