Home Learning Summer Term

In the first few weeks of our school closure, teachers set students work which had continued or consolidated learning from their recent lessons. This was an interim measure, to sustain student learning for a couple of weeks. Given the longer period for which the school will be closed we have now moved all the student work to a new platform. This is a new platform for the students' and teachers and we know that there will be some teething problems, but we think that this will give us a more reliable and straightforward way of connecting with students and reviewing their work.

This is MS Teams. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com and log in. A student's username is their school email address.

This will be surname, followed by their first name initial and then the year they joined Debenham High School. e.g. SmithJ18@debenhamhigh.co.uk

The password is their normal school password.

If their password doesn’t work then please send an email to support@debenhamhigh.co.uk  requesting a password reset.

Students are expected to work to the following timetable:

Each day students will have 3 “lessons”.

Each “home lesson” is designed to take around an hour of student work. Teachers will be available in a two-hour window (to allow some flexibility in when the students access this work from home) to answer any queries that they have. This means that if students tackle the work in this time window and have any issues they will be able to get support with their work.

Session 1: 9.30 – 11.30

Session 2: 10.30 – 12.30

Session 3: 12.30 – 2.30

Each lesson will be set with a “lesson plan”. There will be clear tasks that students have to complete and submit for the teachers to review. This might be completing something online, or submitting a piece of work. Instructions for this will be clear in the lesson plan.

Community

We would like students to work on a community-based activity during the week, we are confident that all students are seeking ways to support others but wanted to recognise this as part of their week. This could include: speaking on the phone or through the internet to someone who is socially isolated; working with a sibling or other young person in the home on their school work or project; or any other activity which is for the benefit of others, as well as hopefully themselves.

Journal: Living History Project

We would like students to create a journal of their time at home, there is more detailed information attached, however we would like students to create a record of this time in their lives and be prepared to share this with others when they return to school as well as keeping this as a record of an historical period in their lives.

Year 10 students

Year 10 students should also work on the Community and Journal aspect of the offer, this should amount to a further one hour a week for each of these, but this is in addition to the timetable detailed above.
