Early Help and Intervention

Posters outline the ways students are supported at Debenham High School.  These include our Early Help Offer.  The ways we support students dependent on their level of need, aiming to remove barriers or deal with concerns before they escalate to the level of child protection or high end need.

Visitors to the School

Where appropriate Debenham High School utilises the expertise of a range of guest speakers, authors and visitors to enrich and augment the curriculum and learning opportunities of our students. The safeguarding of our students is at the forefront of everything we do. To ensure that guests and visitors’ information is in line with our own values and ethos the a rigorous process of checks is made.  By completing these checks, the academy is confident that we are protecting our students from extremist views such as radicalisation and homophobia while enjoying the wide benefits of external speakers.

Supporting Students – Parent/Carer Support

The role of parents/carers is fundamental to keeping young people safe.  While difficult at times to fully understand the world in which our children live, this is important to being able to keep them safe.  The key way to support is through healthy routines and expectations as well as love and understanding.  Aiming to keep lines of communication open so your child can talk to you about anything is a key way to ensure safety – although we fully understand that this is easier said than done.

ParentInfo is a regularly updated feed of expert information, advice and sources of support for parents on a whole range of parenting themes - the emphasis being on helping parents and carers develop their children's resilience to the risks and pressures they face in today's world.

Emotional and Mental Wellbeing

As a school we actively promote ways to be healthy in body, mind and soul.  Through PSHE, assemblies, the wider curriculum and our extracurricular offer.

We follow the principles of PERMA shared with us by clinical psychologist, Dr Hazel Harrison.  You can find out more about her at the following website: https://www.thinkavellana.com/

The PERMA acronym reminds us of ways to promote positive emotional and mental wellbeing:

P – Think positively

E – Engage with your work; hobbies and in family life

R – Relationships – maintain friendships and build positive relationships with both peers and others

M – Meaning – take an interest in the world around you; pause to enjoy nature, books, films

A – this can be academic and/or sporting activities; music; any other hobby or simply improving a skill
